How brand voice controls affect generated content
You will learn to: Use SMR’s actual voice fields to guide drafts and make a safe per-creative override.
The saved fields work together
SMR supplies saved audience, purpose, offer, voice and avoid guidance when preparing content. Audience helps decide who the explanation is for. Purpose describes what the business wants to achieve. Offer supplies factual context. Voice shapes expression. Avoid guidance marks boundaries. If those fields conflict, a draft may need more correction; improve the brief rather than expecting one tone word to resolve everything.
Make the instruction observable
Compare “sound professional” with “explain the decision plainly, use complete sentences, avoid slang and do not promise results.” The second instruction can be checked in the output. Examples can demonstrate rhythm and vocabulary, but should not become copy to repeat verbatim. A saved reference caption is a style reference, not permission to reuse an unverified customer claim.
Why it matters
Generated content remains a draft. The saved voice can guide wording but does not validate prices, permissions, dates or source material. Review those separately. If a draft is inaccurate, correcting only its tone will leave the underlying problem intact. A useful review asks whether the claim is supported, the reader is clear and the expression matches the situation.
Override locally and check the boundary
In Create, describe the tone needed for this creative in the brief, or edit the caption directly in Creative Studio. For example: “For this service update, use a calm factual tone with no humour.” Save the draft, reopen it and check the caption. Leave the Brand voice settings unchanged unless the default itself should change. Channel captions remain independently reviewable while artwork is shared.
Worked examples
Default guidance
“Warm, practical explanations for first-time buyers. Avoid jargon and exaggerated urgency.” This can guide many topics without dictating identical sentences.
Local override
“This post announces a delayed opening. State the confirmed time first, apologise briefly and give a contact route. No jokes.” The override belongs to this creative, not every future post.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming a voice setting guarantees factual accuracy.
- Putting confidential details into examples when they are not needed.
- Editing brand-wide settings while trying to change only a channel caption.
What changes across channels?
Channel-specific messages can use different openings, length and calls to action. Stories in SMR do not add a separate caption task; review the artwork wording instead. Check every selected destination in Finish, because suitable copy for one surface may not fit another.
Compare channels and SMR support →Apply your understanding
Draft a short message with the default voice. Add a one-post tone instruction, compare the result and identify the changed words. Reopen brand settings to confirm the original default remains appropriate.
Notes are not uploaded or saved. Copy them before leaving. Only completion is recorded.Which saved field should contain a topic the brand must not discuss?
